Almost $30,000 was raised for Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda in a fundraising golf tournament.

A committee of eight people spent months planning the event, which was held last month at Tucker’s Point.

Prizes for a raffle and auction were provided by businesses and individuals.

More than 20 teams took part, including groups from seven key sponsors: Conyers; Digicel; Mazars; Talcott; Arcadian; Butterfield Bermuda Championship; and AXA XL.

Sandra Christensen, an event organiser and fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity, said: “I have been doing charity golf tournaments for many years and never have I seen so much money raised in one afternoon as we managed to raise at this tournament.

“That was due to the hard work and commitment of the golf committee and the amazing support we received in the community.”

Sheelagh Cooper, the charity’s chairwoman, added: “We are so touched by the fact that Habitat was chosen as the beneficiary of this very successful event.

“This will be a tremendous help in bringing us over the finish line for our latest project, the Rectory Residential Treatment Centre in Somerset. Because of generous donations like this, as well as the help from over 100 volunteers, the project is almost complete.”

Talks are under way about making the event annual.
