Government provides funding for youth groups
The Government has paid out $80,000 to 14 charities and organisations that work to ensure that young people are safe and protected from harm.
The grants were part of the National Youth Policy initiative launched by the Government in 2022 “to support, empower and engage Bermuda’s young people”.
Organisations can qualify for NYP grants only if they follow child-safeguarding policies.
A government spokeswoman said: “In accordance with the NYP’s No 1 goal of keeping young people safe and protected from harm, organisations are mandated to have a safeguarding policy in place before qualifying to receive funding.
“The stipulation for all youth-focused organisations and groups to have a safeguarding policy in place is necessary to ensure the safety and protection of our children.
“It strengthens Bermuda's position in efforts to ensure child safeguarding and protection on a national level in alignment with the aims set out in the National Child Safeguarding Policy and the National Youth Policy.”
