Outstanding Teen award nominations being accepted

Teen Services Bermuda — empowering young lives

Nominations are being accepted for the 2024 Bermuda Outstanding Teen Awards, set to take place in May, it was announced on Wednesday.

Teen Services Bermuda said the OTA event, which is now in its 38th year, will be dedicated to the achievements of high school seniors from private and public schools on the island. It will be held on May 11.

“We are thrilled to bring back the OTA to acknowledge the incredible talents and efforts of our youth,” Wendy Augustus, director of teen services, said. “Their resilience and achievements, especially in these challenging times, deserve to be celebrated.”

Schools and organisations are encouraged to put forward their nominations before the deadline of March 22 at 11.59pm. The nomination form, along with a detailed biography and head shot of the nominee, must be submitted online on the application form to Teen Services Bermuda.

The competition is open to students age 17 to 19 who “have demonstrated remarkable abilities and characteristics pertinent to the award categories.”

According to the organiser, the OTA recognises teenagers who excel in various categories, including academics, community service, leadership, sports and art. The nomination process is stringent, the organiser said, with specific criteria set for each category to ensure “fairness and rigour in the selection process”.

Nominees are eligible to compete in up to three categories; a separate nomination form is required for each category.

Category winners will receive scholarship awards, with the overall winner being named Bermuda’s Outstanding Teen of 2024.

At this year’s ceremony, winners from the 2022 event will be honoured.

“The OTA is more than an awards ceremony. It is testament to the potential and positive impact of Bermuda’s youth,” the organiser said.

“As the island looks forward to this celebratory event, the community is invited to join in supporting the aspirations and achievements of its young people,” it added.
