Island’s women gear up for salute to female empowerment
Women in public office took to the streets of Hamilton for a “wellness walk” to highlight International Women’s Day, to be acknowledged tomorrow.
Taking advantage of fine spring weather, the procession wore purple — signifying the cause of justice.
Also emblematic of International Women’s Day are green and white, symbolising hope and purity.
The island’s welcome of the global annual celebration of women’s rights begins early with women police, customs, corrections and fire officers turning out at 7am at the Crow Lane Roundabout in Paget.
The day continues with speeches from three inspiring women in the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall, Hamilton.
The Women’s Resource Centre hosts the event under the rubric of Inspire Inclusion from 8am to 10am.
The half-hour networking breakfast is to be followed by a round of talks in the style of TEDx presentations, according to the WRC.
Participants will hear from Hazel Clarke, the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s director of global sales and business development, Tiffany Paynter, the executive director of OutBermuda, and Kristin White, the author, entrepreneur and activist.
Tickets are $35 via the WRC’s website.
