The Government has signed a statement to confirm that it is committed to bringing legislation to protect privacy into effect on January 1, 2025.

Vance Campbell, the Minister for the Cabinet Office, signed a Personal Information Protection Act Intent Statement this week alongside Alexander White, the Privacy Commissioner, in advance of Pipa coming into effect next year.

A government spokeswoman said that there is a weekly step-by-step process for organisations to meet the requirements of the legislation, and the statement of intent is one such step.

Mr Campbell said in a statement: “The overall objective of the Road to Pipa is to offer guidance to Bermuda’s organisations and individuals to assist them with readying for the implementation of the Personal Information Protection Act 2016, or Pipa.

“I recently signed a Road to Pipa Intent Statement on behalf of the Cabinet Office. This is our commitment and assurance that the public sector will be compliant on January 1, 2025.

“I invite other leaders of Bermuda’s organisations to familiarise themselves with the requirements and encourage them to sign a statement of intent as well.”
