Hundreds turn out to Zoom Around the Sound
The Zoom Around the Sound attracted almost 400 participants raising money for the Bermuda Zoological Society’s programmes.
Joanne Chisnall, the volunteer engagement officer for BZS, said the weather was perfect for the family event in which participants walk, run and cycle 7.2 miles counterclockwise around Harrington Sound.
Ms Chisnall said: “It was a fun family community event. There were lots of families participating today, as well as groups, including a team from Endsmeet Animal Hospital. It’s not a competitive event. It is more about getting exercise and fresh air, and having fun together. It’s all about family.
“All the proceeds will go towards BZS programmes. On the route, we had people who are involved in BZS’s Micro Forest Project, who were sharing information with participants.
“They were on the Railway Trail near Shelly Bay planting endemics, weeding and getting rid of invasive plants.”
Ms Chisnall said it was too early to say how much was raised because donations were continuing to come in.
She thanked sponsors Butterfield & Vallis, 7th Generation and Ben & Jerry’s for their support.
The event, on Saturday, started at 8.10am from the BAMZ and ended at about 11.30am at the same place.
