WindReach fundraiser races to Hamilton next month
WindReach is inviting the public to walk, run and roll through Hamilton next month as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.
While the charity has normally held its annual Walk & Roll fundraiser at Cooper’s Island, this year’s event will start and finish at the Flag Pole on Front Street on April 14.
The fundraiser was launched when Chris Wetherhill and his wife, Chrissy, held the inaugural Wetherhill Walk in support of WindReach.
A spokeswoman for the charity said the organisation was thrilled to bring the 19th edition of the event to the island’s capital
“The accessible 3km route will take the participants west along Front Street to Albouy’ s Point and loop them back in an easterly direction to the Cabinet House,” she said.
“Participants that choose this route will do it twice for the 3km mileage.
“The 5km route — which individuals can choose to walk, roll or run — will head west along Pitts Bay Road to St John’s Road, before re-entering the city via Woodlands Road, down Dundonald Street to Parliament Street and finishing along Front Street to the Flagpole.”
All funds raised through the event will be used to support the charity’s educational and therapeutic programmes.
The charity urged corporate groups, schools and families to sign up to take part, with complementary registration available for the first 100 people with diverse support needs thanks to sponsorship provided by Butterfield & Vallis.
The first 200 people to register will also receive goody bags and shirts.
Registration for this year’s event can be found at racedayworld.com.
Donations can also be made on the event page or through online transfers to the charity’s HSBC account – WindReach, 010-857621-001.
