The Crow Lane Easter Bunnies brought joy to commuters for a final time yesterday.

Capri Smith and Linda Philpott arrived at the Crow Lane roundabout dressed as Easter Bunnies at 7.30am and greeted drivers coming in and out of Hamilton until about 9am.

Ms Smith said the women started doing this five years ago “to bring cheer to everybody going into town”.

She added: “Watching the children’s faces and hearing them shout ‘Easter Bunny’, it’s such a happy time for them.”

Ms Smith, 65, also dresses as the holiday icon at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where she works, and for a Good Friday community event in Sandys.

However, she will not be able to continue doing this on the island, as she plans to move to England.

One of Ms Smith’s favourite memories as the Easter Bunny was during the 2020 lockdown.

She recalled: “Coming out in the Easter Bunny suit and waving to all the traffic was the best day because it brought so much cheer.

“People were tooting like crazy, and it was so much fun”.
