Age Concern holds inaugural outreach day
A seniors advocacy group took to the West End yesterday as part of a new initiative to improve public visibility.
Age Concern's first Membership Monday saw its volunteers set up a stand at the Clocktower Mall in Dockyard and talk to passers-by about their services and goals.
Mercedes Pringle-DeSilva, the group’s executive director, said the event was the first of a series of monthly outreach days to get Age Concern more involved in the community.
She explained that these events would be opportunities to get feedback from the wider community, as well as share resources and more information about their objectives.
Ms Pringle-DeSilva added: “It went pretty well today — our volunteers had a really good chance to catch up with people that they knew from a while ago.
“I can say that it was definitely less hectic than coming into the office.”
Each Membership Monday will take place on the first Monday of the month, and will be held in each parish throughout the year.
Many will be in public domain areas for easier access, and one is guaranteed to be held at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
The next Membership Monday meeting will be held at Heron Bay MarketPlace on May 6 from 10am to 2pm.
