BHS hosting event marking global dance celebration
A free event marking International Dance Day takes place at the Bermuda High School on Sunday.
Local dance educator Angelia Hubbard said the event was open to all local dancers and would run from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
Ms Hubbard, who returned to the island in 2021, said she was inspired to create the event “because I felt there was a need for the community to celebrate dance as Bermuda has such a strong dance presence”.
She said: “I wanted to offer something to the local students who don’t have the opportunity to always go away and experience dance events abroad.”
She said the convention was offering classes in jazz, ballet and hip-hop, as well as musical theatre and modern dances for ages 8 and over.
Ms Hubbard added: “I’m thrilled to offer this as a free event with registration. I have been attending dance competitions and conventions my whole life and wanted to offer the best part of the learning process to the community.”
International Dance Day is observed on April 29 annually since 1982 to celebrate the value of dancing as an art form.
It was created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, the main partner for the performing arts of Unesco.
