Students will showcase their artistic talent in a series of events next month, the Department of Education said yesterday.

The annual Spring into the Arts Festival will be held at CedarBridge Academy’s Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts under the theme "Stepping Forward: No Limitations".

Pupils from 30 private and public schools will display their talents.

The education department said proceeds from the festival will be reinvested into “arts programmes and education resources at participating schools”.

Kalmar Richards, the Commissioner of Education, noted: "As we approach the International Arts Education Week, our festival's showcases are set to be the highlight of our celebrations.

“I invite everyone in the community to join us, support our young artists and witness the extraordinary capabilities of our students."

Performances from students will span music, dance and theatre, and there will be tributes to local artists, with each night hosted by a different master of ceremonies.

The schedule includes:

• Senior Schools Showcase on May 2

• Central Family of Schools Showcase on May 9

• East Family of Schools Showcase on May 16

• West Family of Schools Showcase on May 30

All events are scheduled to run from 6pm to 8.30pm.

The Department of Education said the island’s schools will join “school communities around the globe in celebrating the Unesco-designated International Arts Education Week” from May 20 to May 26.

It added: “These events promise to be unique celebrations of creativity and community spirit.”

Admission for the events is $5 at the door. Patron tickets for $25, offering VIP benefits, can be bought in advance through GPass.bm.
