More than $21,000 raised from Gas O Rama
The Hamilton Lions Club and Terceira’s petrol station have once more teamed up for good causes on the island.
The two raised more than $21,000 for three local charities through the annual Gas O Rama raffle draw and carwash.
Vision Bermuda, Dandy Town Youth Academy and Saving Children and Revealing Secrets received $7,500 from the fundraiser.
Jeffrey Trott, the president of Hamilton Lions Club, said the organisation surpassed its $20,000 fundraising goal.
The funds were raised in February, but were given to the organisations on Monday.
Theresa Hall, the executive director of Vision Bermuda, said the charity, which reopened its Beacon House headquarters on Dundonald Street last month, will use the donated funds to purchase more equipment for its client resource room.
Shawnette Perott, youth-co-ordinator for DTYA, said the funds will allow some of the organisation’s teams to play football overseas this summer.
She explained: “We usually take the children away every other year, but this is the first time since Covid that we are travelling.
“We will be travelling in July to Canada with our younger age group, and in August to Britain with our older group and our girls.”
Debi Ray-Rivers, founder and executive director of Scars, said the charity is “excited that people believe in our mission and that we can use the funds to continue to advance the mission to reduce child sex abuse in Bermuda”.
