Seniors’ Tea to be held in St David’s next month
Ageing and Disability Services will host its second annual Seniors’ Tea next month with a focus on dementia awareness.
Keeona Belboda, the senior abuse registrar, said this year’s tea will be held on June 7 at the Open Door Christian Assembly on Tommy Fox Road in St David’s.
It will carry the theme “Dementia: Staying Connected”.
Ms Belboda said: “Our Seniors’ Tea will foster engagement, education and support among seniors in our community.
“As we age, social engagement becomes increasingly vital to our overall health and wellbeing. This year's focus on dementia is particularly timely, considering the growing number of individuals affected by the disease or at risk of developing it.
“People living with dementia are often vulnerable to social isolation and abuse, making it imperative for us all to become dementia champions by learning how to effectively support our loved ones.”
The event will feature presentations addressing misconceptions about dementia and details about the resources that are available to those who are affected, along with a variety of tea, a light lunch and entertainment.
Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, added: “We encourage seniors in our community to join us for this enriching event.
“Reserving a space is essential as seating is limited, but the rewards of connecting with others and gaining knowledge about dementia are boundless.”
The Ageing and Disability Service’s Seniors’ Tea will take place between noon and 3pm.
