Man arrested after two-vehicle collision

A man has been arrested after two bikes collided in Devonshire yesterday.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said two men were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after the crash on North Shore Road, near Loyal Hill Road, at about 7.10pm.

The spokesman added: “It now appears that both motorcyclists were travelling in the same direction along North Shore Road when the rider in front, understood to be a 71-year-old Devonshire man, was struck from behind by the 49-year-old rider, as the older man attempted to turn on to the Railway Trail, heading towards North Ridge Crescent.”

Police said the men’s injuries were not believed to be as serious as originally thought.

The 49-year-old was taken into police custody after getting discharged from hospital, on suspicion of impaired driving.

Police said this afternoon that the 71-year-old was also discharged from hospital after treatment.

Traffic in the area was diverted for about two hours while officers processed the scene.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Pc Kevin Madeiros on 211 or e-mail kmadeiros@bps.bm.
