All-female relay race to have Taylor Swift theme

An all-female race will take place on Sunday with a Taylor Swift theme.

The You Go Girl! Relay, which has gained Mosaic Insurance as a new lead sponsor, will celebrate its 13th anniversary.

Taylor Swift was chosen as a theme because 13 is the American songstress’s lucky number.

Registered teams with names inspired by the singer and songwriter included Karma, Bad Blood, Swifties, Only the Young, Lavender Haze and Tortured Runners Society.

The race, which is open to all females aged 7 and older, will begin at 8.30am on Front Street. Teams of three compete over three laps, each of two kilometres.

The first person is required to complete all three laps, the second team member will take on two laps and the last person, one lap.

There is also the option for each person to complete all three laps.

Runners and walkers are welcome.

There will be a separate Little Girls short race for participants aged 4 to 7.

A spokeswoman for the event said: “Costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. Goody bags will be handed out to the first 400 who register.

“There are fabulous draw prizes up for grabs from the Hideaway, Bermuda Body Works, Goslings, Alexandra Mosher, Diesel Fitness, Salon Pink, Bermuda Jewellery, Sports Source, Beyond Fitness, Flying Colours and the grand prize draw of a one-night stay at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club with breakfast included.

“More draw prizes are being added daily.

“Participants will be entertained with music played by DJ Ricochet plus Tony Bean will have his photo booth to capture all of the fun outfits.”

All proceeds raised from the event will be donated to the Women’s Resource Centre.
