‘Swift’ runners wear Taylor-inspired outfits during race
Runners paid homage yesterday to pop superstar Taylor Swift during a fundraising race for women in need.
Participants in Mosiac’s You Go Girl Relay channelled their inner Swifties and wore their best Eras-inspired outfits in recognition of the singer’s ongoing concert tour of the same name.
All the proceeds will go towards the Women Resource Centre, which aims to help women suffering from abuse or poverty.
Christine DeSilva, an organiser for the race, said that the race went off “extremely well,” adding that “the theme was totally committed to with many sparkly outfits and many shirts sporting her lyrics”.
The Hamilton race featured a 2km-4km-6km three-lap structure for individuals and groups taking part.
It featured 201 women and girls who participated together as 69 teams.
The race also featured two races for girls aged between four and five and six and seven.
Participants also received $2,500 worth of draw prizes donated by local merchants.
Lisa Fontanetta, Mosiac’s chief of staff, who took part in the race, said: “Big thanks to all the women and girls who showed up with fantastic team spirit and made this year’s Mosaic You Go Girl Relay such a success.
“We’re delighted to support an event that not only brings together colleagues, friends and families to enjoy camaraderie and competition — but also has a meaningful impact on women in need in Bermuda.
“We look forward to helping it go from strength to strength.”
You Go Girl, which has been going on for 13 years, has donated more than $120,000 to the WRC.
A spokesman for the race said that donations were still being counted, and that a full figure will be handed out in the future.
Juanae Crockwell, the executive director of the WRC, said: “We are so grateful to be the beneficiary of the Mosaic You Go Girl Relay once again.
“The funds raised from this event will help to keep our doors open so women in Bermuda will continue to find a safe place at WRC for counselling, support groups, therapeutic programmes and community education.
“The race is an annual fixture on our calendar, and we are looking forward to the camaraderie and sense of community it will bring.”
Ms DeSilva thanked the sponsors of the race and donors who donated draw prizes.
She also thanked the male volunteers from Marshalls and the members of her race committee – Terri Durrant, Natalie Price and Beverley Adams.
