Adventure race open for contenders
Registration is open for this year’s Ber-mazing Race, which will be held at Bernard’s Park, organisers said this week.
The adventure-style event on August 31, to be broadcast live, starts at 11am and will see racers competing in adult and youth categories.
Participants aged 18 and over will compete in the adult category, while the youth race is open to those between 10 and 17.
This year’s race comes with a twist, with both races on the same day — allowing “younger adventurers to experience the excitement alongside the adults”.
Styled after the popular network television reality show The Amazing Race, it will be officiated under the direction of sports legend Merle Parfitt.
Organisers said: “Since its inception in 2006, the Ber-mazing Race has grown into one of Bermuda’s premier adventure-seeking events, attracting repeat participants seeking the grand prize and bragging rights as champions.”
The race will see two-person teams vying to arrive first at different pitstops.
The organisers said competitors would navigate “the picturesque landscapes of Bermuda, solving clues, completing challenges and racing against the clock”.
The first-place winner of the adult open race will walk away with a $1,000 cash prize and awards will go to the first three finishers in each age category.
Race officials encouraged businesses from small to large to give support by sponsoring a team, with “particularly attractive rates for tourism-based businesses”.
“Sponsors will benefit from extensive exposure through our marketing efforts, on-site signage, and live coverage.”
Those with food, toys, tourism experiences and other offerings were invited to join the Vendor Village.
Registration closes on June 30.
Past winners are urged to contact the organisers at Bermazingrace@gmail.com for recognition on the big day.
