A cash windfall has come to Bermudian sport courtesy of Clarien Bank.

The bank reported a donation of $10,000 to a fund that supports the island’s athletes.

Michael DeCouto, Clarien’s chief digital and marketing officer, said the bank’s contribution to the Flora Fund, which provides grants and bursaries to athletes and sporting organisations, “is an investment in the potential of young Bermudian athletes”.

He added: “Supporting these athletes means fostering a strong community and ensuring the continued development of sports here in Bermuda.

“We are honoured to be a part of their journey towards success.”

Clarien and the Bermuda Triathlon Association sponsored the Iron Kids Triathlon and carnival in St David’s last weekend.

A statement said: “Clarien Bank’s support of the Flora Fund aligns perfectly with the core values promoted at this [triathlon].”

Olympic-winning triathlete Dame Flora Duffy, who established the Flora Fund in 2018, said: “For seven years, Clarien has supported my aspiration of allowing young Bermudian talent to find their full potential in spite of financial constraints.

“The Flora Fund has deployed more than $100,000 across 45 grants to deserving Bermudians.

“Fifty-four per cent of these beneficiaries were female, which I am really proud of.”

Dame Flora added: “With this donation, Clarien will enable more trips abroad, more coaching fees, more needed equipment. I am incredibly thankful.”
