The Governor announced this afternoon the appointment of Nicholas Segal as an Assistant Justice of the Supreme Court.

Rena Lalgie said the position played an important role in the Bermuda Commercial Court and will be effective for one year.

Highlighting Mr Segal’s background, she added: “In particular, he brings valuable knowledge and insight from his extensive international experience including his work in England and the Cayman Islands in the area of corporate, insolvency, financial, funds, trusts, fraud, land and commercial law.

“The judiciary holds an important place in Bermuda as a separate and independent branch of the Government which hears charges of criminal conduct, resolves disputes, upholds the rights and freedoms of individuals, and preserves the rule of law.

“The appointment reflects the continuing dedication of the Commercial Court to provide judicial services to the international business sector which supports a significant part of the economy of Bermuda.”
