End-to-End hands out $240,000 in grants
An organisation that sets up an island-wide charity walk, ride and swim has handed out $240,000 in grants.
The 2024 Convex End-to-End last week gave the money to several organisations during an awards ceremony at the Hamilton Princess.
The grants helped the group surpass $7 million in donations since the organisation started making the contributions in 1988.
Paul Simons, the chief executive officer of Convex Bermuda, said: “It’s always a pleasure to be a part of the Convex End-to-End. It’s an exceptional day that brings Bermuda together.”
End-to-End gave the $15,000 Deloitte School Award to the Bermuda High School because it had the most student participants in this year’s race.
Retiring chairwoman Anne Mello, who first joined the board in 1993, was also honoured with a $20,000 grant made in her name.
The Anne Mello Award was made to Transitional Community Services.
Ms Mello said: “As I reflect on the incredible success of the 2024 event, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude.
“This year's event surpassed all our expectations, showcasing the dedication, enthusiasm, and community spirit that defines us.
“It has been incredible to witness the growth and evolution of the End-to-End over the years and it has been a truly rewarding journey.
“Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this extraordinary experience."
The End-to-End also made donations to Action on Alzheimer’s and Dementia Bermuda; the Coalition for the Protection of Children; Raleigh Bermuda; the Transformational Living Centre for Families; and WindReach.
Additional donations were given to St John’s Ambulance and the Skills Development programme.
Convex also won the Team Spirit Award for the enthusiasm of its staff during the race.
Mr Simons said: “My congratulations go out to the team here at Convex for all they did to win the Team Spirit Award as well as all the other award winners.”
“The End-to-End directly aligns with our values at Convex and being a part of this event further demonstrates the extent of its positive impact on the charities supported, as well as the broader Bermuda community.”
Bermuda Waterworks received the 2024 Founder’s Trophy, while Clarien won the 2024 Water Stop Award.
Maureen Ryan, Deidra James, Kai Julio, Amelia Durrant and Jackie Trott all won the 2024 Volunteers of the Year award.
Several awards were also given to the Convex End-to-End’s top individual fundraisers.
Among them was Dudley Cottingham, who received the Joan Dismont Top Fundraiser Award, which secured him an overnight stay in a Hamilton Princess & Beach Club suite with breakfast for two.
