An astronaut has landed — on the grounds of a Hamilton hotel.
Bronze Eroded Astronaut, created by the highly acclaimed Daniel Arsham, a contemporary artist based in New York City, is the latest addition to the artworks on display at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club.
The work is a life-size sculpture, drawing inspiration from the iconic image of the late astronaut Neil Armstrong, during his Apollo 11 moonwalk in 1969.
The hotel’s collection houses several other works by Mr Arsham, including a piece called Large Wrapped Animal (Blue), acquired in 2023, which is outside the Exhale Spa.
Mr Arsham’s sculptures have been described as “future relics”, exploring themes of decay, regeneration and progression.
