A “smouldering bunker fire” at the Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility in Devonshire has not affected the public drop-off of trash.

However the Ministry of Public Works said the fire, which was under control, had caused “periodic impacts on service delivery.”

Firefighters along with Tynes Bay staff were said to “closely monitoring the situation to ensure it remains under control”.

Of top concern was the safety and wellbeing of employees along with the commercial hauliers who unload at the facility.

While the situation remained “manageable”, hauliers were advised of potential service delays.

There was said to be “no immediate threat to public safety”, with the plant “taking all necessary steps to manage the situation effectively”.
