Girl guides volunteer at Family Centre
Girl scouts from the United States and members of the Bermuda Girl Guide Association helped Family Centre prepare for a fundraiser yesterday.
Gayle Aprill, co-ordinator of Troop Adventure in the US, said 35 girls from the camp took part in a cultural exchange with members of Girlguiding Bermuda.
Ms Aprill, who was part of a team that cleaned up around Somerset Long Bay and Gilbert Nature Reservein 2022, explained: “[That initiative] was such a success that we decided to come back.
“We came over on Liberty of the Seas, we did some badge work on there and Norma-Jean Richardson, from Girlguiding Bermuda, said we should come to Family Centre because of their tag day fundraiser.”
The troops exchanged trinkets with one another after organising tags for tomorrow’s fundraiser.
Hannah Collins de la Cruz, Family Centre’s fund development specialist and digital media manager, said: “Our goal for the tag day each is to bring in $50,000. That includes Clarien Bank sponsorship, Cup Match ribbon sales and donations in our buckets on the actual day.”
The charity, which has raised more than $16,000 from Cup Match ribbons so far, will have donation buckets at 19 locations throughout the island tomorrow, including MarketPlace stores in Hamilton, Heron Bay and Sandys, the Phoenix Centre and Lindo’s in Warwick and Devonshire.
