Downed utility pole cuts power to more than 100 customers
An early-morning vehicle crash with a utility pole cut power to about 130 customers in the East End yesterday.
Belco operators spent the day trying to repair the damage, with power restored to all properties by about 8pm.
It happened after an outage plunged many residents of eastern parishes into darkness last Monday.
Shelly Leman, a managing director at Belco, said: “At approximately 4am on Sunday, August 11, a vehicle collided with a utility pole in the area of Stokes Point, St David’s.
“This caused a power outage for approximately 130 customers.
“Belco crews were dispatched and had to replace the utility pole and repair damaged overhead wires.”
She added that teams were working to restore power to the remaining customers as quickly as possible and a spokesman said that they were all restored by about 8pm.
Last Monday, an outage shortly before 10pm affected about 9,000 customers at its height.
Ms Leman said then that Belco crews were immediately dispatched and power was restored to all customers by just after 11pm.
The power company was investigating the cause of that blackout.
• UPDATE: this article has been updated to show that power was restored to all affected customers
