Museum to mark 50th anniversary with a bang

The National Museum of Bermuda will celebrate its 50th anniversary in October with a fundraising party to include fireworks and exploding cannon.

Proceeds from the event — “Celebrating Our History, Supporting Our Future” — will support the museum’s education programmes, historic preservation efforts, research, exhibits and care of its collection of 80,000 objects related to the island’s history and culture.

The party, which will be held at Dockyard on October 5, will also feature live music, an open bar, a seated dinner and gourmet food stations.

Throughout the night, guests can make donations starting at $10 to support the museum’s work and have a chance to fire a cannon. Guests can also purchase a cannon fire outright for $500.

Katie Bennett, the museum’s advancement director, said: “Don't miss out on this spectacular event.

“We are thankful to our in-kind sponsors DasFete, Fourways Catering, Gosling’s Limited, Island Restaurant Group’s Dockyard Brewing Co and our numerous volunteers who are making our party possible.

“We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone.”

Tickets can be purchased from the NMB website.
