Temporary closure of tennis stadium over safety concerns

The W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium is to be shut down for a week to address safety concerns at the site.

After an initial assessment, engineers decided to close the Pembroke sports stadium from tomorrow so that further investigation and building work can be carried out. Immediate precautionary measures will be taken to address safety concerns, according to a spokesman.

Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, said that the work was part of “an ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving” the stadium.

He said: “While we regret the temporary closure, access to bathroom facilities and administrative offices will be unavailable once work begins.

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our staff and the public, and we want to ensure that everyone is fully accommodated. We will notify the public when the facility is ready to reopen.

"We appreciate the community's understanding and co-operation during this temporary closure as we work to create a safer, more enjoyable and inclusive environment for all W.E.R. Joell patrons and to enhance the sporting experience in Bermuda.“
