Search for missing woman to sweep length of island

Still missing: Janet Niklaus (Photograph supplied)

Police, soldiers and volunteers are systematically combing the island in the ongoing search for a senior woman missing since Friday.

Janet Niklaus, 70, who is also known by her maiden name of Fubler, was last seen that day in the vicinity of the Heron Bay MarketPlace in Southampton.

Police said that, based on information received, officers assisted by civilians as well as the Royal Bermuda Regiment were carrying out a strategic grid search of the island.

The exercise began at Dockyard, and is moving east.

Police renewed their appeal for residents and business owners to check properties, particularly sheds and pump rooms, for any signs of Ms Niklaus.

A spokesman also called for members of the public who had not joined the search so far to “please come forward and assist”.

“There are several residents who have been assisting from the very first day, and continue to be part of the search effort,” he said.

“We are grateful for your commitment and diligence.”

Ms Niklaus, who is Bermudian, is described as 5ft 10in tall, of medium built and dark complexioned, with short, grey, thinning hair.

When last seen, she was wearing a light blue or grey, knee-length, sleeveless house dress with open toed slippers.

She may also be wearing a glucose monitoring patch on her upper left arm.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to call the main police number, 295-0011, 211 or 911 — while anyone seeing someone fitting her description should immediately contact police.
