Government highlights energy-saving initiatives
The Government has reminded residents of tips for energy efficiency as it underscored recent steps to reduce the cost of fuel in Bermuda.
A spokeswoman highlighted the Government’s decision to freeze fuel prices when they reached a global high two years ago and a 60 per cent reduction on fuel tax last month.
She added: “We recognise that multiple factors, including fluctuating energy markets, contribute to increased utility bills.
“While these factors are beyond our control, there are practical, cost-effective steps residents can take to better manage their electricity bills. Small changes can lead to significant savings.”
Ways to save energy include using energy-efficient LED light bulbs in homes, each of which could save consumers at least $148 during a four-year period, along with turning water heaters off at night and switching off the lights in rooms not in use.
Unplugging idle devices and chargers, investing in energy-efficient appliances, monitoring utility bills and using dehumidifiers and setting air conditioners to their most efficient settings can also save energy.
The spokeswoman added: “The Government is committed to helping every resident combat the rising energy expenses.
“By taking these steps, you can manage your electricity costs more effectively and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient energy future for Bermuda.”
