St George’s Seafood Festival postponed for a week
Residents and visitors were advised today that the St George’s Seafood Festival has been put back to September 22, instead of this Sunday, owing to “the forecast of inclement weather”.
The Corporation of St George made the announcement this afternoon and encouraged “everyone to join us on the new date, where attendees can enjoy all the planned festivities”.
Candy-Lee Foggo, the town manager, said: “Our organising team has met and enacted our contingency plan for inclement weather.”
She added that the date of the event was moved “out of an abundance of caution and concern for public safety”.
Ms Foggo said: “As this is an outdoor event, the predicted forecast is not conducive to host this highly anticipated event.“
The Corporation said that all food and drink tickets bought already will be honoured for the rescheduled date, when the free festival will run from midday to 7pm at Ordnance Island.
The event will celebrate the best of Bermuda’s seafood while offering “a touch of history” and lasting family memories.
Mayor of St George Quinell Francis said: “Our team has worked diligently for several months to craft a seaside festival atmosphere right here in St George.
“We've engaged a variety of seafood vendors to deliver a fresh, tasty and authentically Bermudian culinary experience, all set against the stunning backdrop of St George's Harbour.”
Advanced online tickets for food and drinks available at the festival, which is the result of a partnership between the Corporation of St George and the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, are available at bermudachamber.bm/events.
Ms Foggo said vendors would serve “delicious, traditional seafood from top local spots”.
Entertainers are also expected to bring energy to the occasion while a family friendly fun zone will include fun castles, mini golf and a gaming station.
