Bermudian collects Emmy for Super Bowl music selection
A Bermudian music rep has won a Sports Emmy for a production used during the CBS Television broadcast of the Super Bowl this year.
Taylor Crystal Ralph earned the trophy for her involvement in producing the Frank Sinatra short, My Way, at the NFL event in February.
Working for CBS Sports, she had responsibility for clearing the music and film footage of Sinatra singing the classic, which was used for an opening segment that had a Las Vegas theme.
The Sports Emmy was for Outstanding Open/Tease during the coverage.
Ms Ralph said: “It’s a surreal experience seeing my name on the statue.
“I found out in May that our production team won, but to see it in person is something else.”
Ms Ralph studied music business at New York University, in Manhattan, where she was taught artist management, including marketing, licensing and supervision.
She handles all the music for CBS Sports. She told The Royal Gazette in February: “Every time you hear music before a commercial or a graphic or before a segment, I pick that music.
“For golf, the tone is different from say, basketball, where we will use more of funk music whereas for golf, it would be orchestral.”
Ms Ralph is the daughter of Mandy Richardson Ralph, originally from Somerset, and Walter Ralph, from New York. She was born in Boston and raised in New Rochelle, New York.
Her Bermudian grandparents are Gladwin and Marilyn Richardson.
Ms Ralph spent her summer holidays in Bermuda, becoming well known working for her uncle, Kent, a triathlete, at his West End waterskiing business.
She is not the first Bermudian to win an Emmy; previous recipients include Hollywood actor Michael Douglas in 1987 and journalist Glenn Jones in 2007.
