Drone show addition to City Christmas boat parade
A “spectacular” drone show is expected to light up Hamilton Harbour at this year’s City Christmas Boat Parade.
The City of Hamilton will partner with HSBC to stage the December 7 event and said that the drone show will illuminate the sky with “breathtaking lights”.
“This beloved event promises an evening of festive fun for the entire family,” the City said.
Residents will have a chance to vote for their favourite entry at the event and can enjoy a free-to-access viewing village and children’s zone, which will offer the best views of Hamilton Harbour.
The City said: “Attendees can enjoy an array of delicious food vendors while settling in for the parade’s main attraction — a fleet of brilliantly decorated boats, each adorned with dazzling Christmas-themed designs — to light up the night.”
Spectators will gather at the Number 1 car park from 6.30pm with “Power Girl” Patrina O’Connor as host, backed by festive music from DJ Chubb.
Boat owners were encouraged to register their vessels by November 8 to take part in the parade using a Boat Parade Application Form online.
There is another form for anyone interested in being a vendor.
The City said: “To avoid conflicting with the Corporation of St George’s Boat Parade, the City Christmas Boat Parade will be held every other year, ensuring both events can shine on their respective stages.”
Lorna Hayward, the City’s senior events co-ordinator, added: “We are thrilled to bring this much loved family tradition back to Hamilton.
“The sight of the harbour aglow with thousands of festive lights is truly magical, creating a holiday atmosphere that people of all ages can enjoy.
“Bring your chairs, your holiday spirit and your friends and family for a night to remember.
“We are really encouraging boat owners to take part and keep this magical Christmas tradition alive.”
Tanya Bule, HSBC’s head of wealth and personal banking, said: “HSBC is proud to partner with the City of Hamilton to bring this festive favourite event back to Hamilton.
“The City Christmas Boat Parade has always been a highlight of the holiday calendar, getting everyone in the Christmas spirit, and we are delighted to sponsor it for 2024.”
