Unite with survivors at domestic violence awareness event
An event at City Hall next week will kick-start a month-long campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence.
The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, with the support of the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Committee, will host a proclamation event at City Hall on October 1 from noon to 2pm.
A government spokeswoman said: “This event will be an opportunity for survivors, advocates, community leaders and the general public to come together in solidarity to raise awareness and encourage those affected to seek support.”
The event is intended to raise awareness and promote community engagement during Domestic Abuse Awareness Month in October.
This year, the observance will be held under the theme “Empowering Communities to Break the Cycle of Abuse”.
The spokeswoman added: “This proclamation is a call to action for all Bermudians to get involved, raise their voices and take steps to address the root causes of domestic abuse.
“We encourage everyone to attend and to stand with us as we work towards a future free from domestic violence.
“Together, we can break the cycle of abuse and build a community where every person can feel safe, supported and empowered.”
She said the ministry was committed to empowering individuals to speak out and offer resources for survivors. It will also educate the public about the warning signs of abuse.
The campaign will focus on uniting individuals, families and organisations to work together in building a safer, more supportive Bermuda.
