A lawyer and banking and credit analyst has been announced as the chief executive of the Bermuda Credit Union, taking over from Micah Davis, who served for 14 years until his retirement in March.

Ryan Robinson Perinchief was also appointed general manager of the credit union, which was founded by the Bermuda Industrial Union in 1972.

Mr Robinson Perinchief has been a member of the financial institution for more than a decade and joined its board of directors in 2022.

The credit union said he was chosen as CEO designate last year and moved from its board to full-time management at the beginning of this year.

He is a Rhodes scholar, certified credit union development educator, and commercial banking and credit analyst who was Called to the Bermuda Bar in 2023.

He has also served as the founder and director of Future Leaders Bermuda since 2017, a registered non-profit.

Mr Robinson Perinchief’s public service career included the Cabinet’s economic recovery project management office and work as a policy analyst and adviser to the acting financial secretary.

Renée Jones, the president and chairwoman of the board, thanked Mr Davis for his service, which came with “significant growth and development”.

She said Mr Robinson Perinchief would lead the credit union into a new era with his commitment to “operational excellence and enhancing our member experience”.

Priorities include strengthening its regulatory and compliance framework, revising lending policies and spearheading modernisation.

Ms Jones said he had undergone extensive training since being endorsed by the board.

It came with “international engagement within our regional Credit Union Co-operative network — including successful completion of the 50th Caribbean Credit Union Development Educators Programme in Castries, St Lucia, where he was named class valedictorian”.

She added: “Having shown a comprehensive understanding of our credit union’s strategic vision and a firm commitment to its growth and success from his time on the board as second vice-president, we are confident that his unique blend of skills and experiences aligns well with our commitment to making a difference in the lives of our members.”

Thanking Mr Davis and his colleagues, Mr Robinson Perinchief said: “The Bermuda Credit Union has a rich history and an ambitious mission to become a first-class financial institution of choice for all of Bermuda, and I look forward to working with our dedicated team to fulfil this mandate for the benefit of our members and the entire community.”

The Bermuda Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit, co-operative financial institution.
