Jeane Nikolai named Permanent Secretary for the Cabinet Office
The Head of the Public Service has appointed a former director of energy as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of the Cabinet Office.
Jeane Nikolai is working under Crystal Caesar, the Minister of the Cabinet Office, and has areas such as planning, communications, the Bermuda Post Office as well as the public access to information and personal information protection unit under her remit.
Ms Nikolai, who stepped into her new role yesterday, earlier worked with the Ministry of Public Works and as facilities manager for the Ministry of Education.
She earned a certification from the International Facilities Management Association in 2006 and became director of energy in 2009, when the department was newly established.
A government spokeswoman said: “She played a pivotal role in developing Bermuda’s National Energy Policy, National Electricity Policy, Electricity Act 2016, National Fuels Policy and Fuels Act 2022.”
Ms Nikolai was also acting director for the Department of Telecommunications when it amalgamated with the Department of Energy in 2018 and when the Regulatory Authority was formed.
She succeeds Pandora Glasford, who was appointed as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Tourism and the Cabinet Office in August 2023.
Ms Glasford assumed the role of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport in June.
