Art Month draws to a close
Residents and visitors were encouraged to visit a series of exhibitions that celebrate the island’s culture and creativity.
October was designated Art Month, and while the month is drawing to a close, a number of events and exhibitions continue.
A spokeswoman for the Bermuda Tourism Authority said: “Exhibits are ongoing at the Bermuda National Gallery, Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, the Bermuda Society of Arts, the National Museum of Bermuda, and Black Pony Gallery at Cambridge Beaches.
“Additionally, special exhibitions at The Loren Hotel and self-guided art tours at the Hamilton Princess Hotel remain available for those looking to immerse themselves in Bermuda's art scene.”
Signature events include a curated conversation with poet Yesha Townsend at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, which starts at 5.30pm today.
Artist Graham Foster will give a lecture on his Hall of History mural at the National Museum of Bermuda at 1pm on Sunday.
On November 1, the Bermuda National Gallery will host a closing party for the 2024 Biennial exhibition. Attendees will be able to meet artists and hear their stories. Tickets can be bought through the BNG website.
Jennifer Phillips, the executive director of the gallery, said: “As Art Month wraps, we are reminded of the profound value that art brings to our community of both residents and visitors.
“Art has the unique ability to inspire, provoke thought and connect us all, and this year’s events have made it more accessible than ever.
“The closing celebration, set against the backdrop of the Bermuda Biennial, represents another incredible opportunity to engage with the beauty and diversity of artistic expression.”
Tashae Thompson, the BTA’s vice-president of experiences, said: “We’ve had a fantastic Art Month so far, with dynamic exhibitions and activations that have engaged both locals and visitors.
“As the month wraps up, we’re urging everyone to take advantage of the last remaining talks and events, and to visit the many exhibits that will remain open into the coming weeks. This is a wonderful chance to experience Bermuda’s creative culture.”
