President of Azores to visit Bermuda this weekend
The President of the Azores will be on the island this weekend to help celebrate the 175th anniversary of the first arrival of Portuguese emigrants to Bermuda.
José Manuel Bolieiro and his delegation will arrive on Saturday morning.
He will be the guest of honour at a cocktail reception and dinner at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa that evening.
The dinner starts at 6.30pm and will also feature a musical performance by Jessica Amaro, a popular Portuguese-Canadian entertainer, together with performances from the Casa dos Açores Children’s Folklore Group, Gombey Evolution Troupe and the Vasco da Gama Club Folklore Group.
According to the 175th Portuguese Commemorations Committee, President Bolieiro will also attend Mass at St Theresa’s Cathedral at 10am on Sunday.
Congregants and other guests are welcome to attend and celebrate with him. There will also be a coffee social event immediately after the service for anyone in attendance.
During his visit, President Bolieiro is expected to meet the Governor, the Premier and government ministers.
He will also take part in private receptions hosted by the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Bermuda, Casa dos Açores da Bermuda, the Vasco da Gama Club, and the Portuguese Cultural Association.
President Bolieiro will be arriving on the 10.35am JetBlue flight and the committee “encourages as many members of the public as possible to come out to give the President a warm, Bermudaful welcome”.
