A community action group has invited anyone in need to attend its free giveaway event this month.

The Grateful Bread will give out donated goods including toiletries, clothing and shoes, toys, and household items.

The event will take place at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Church Street from 1pm to 4.30pm on November 16.

A spokeswoman for Grateful Bread, a volunteer organisation, said: “There is a huge need in Bermuda for the less fortunate to receive free giveaway goods given the extremely high cost of living here.

“There are thousands of people in Bermuda who cannot afford to purchase basic goods.

“We organise and sort a monthly collection of goods at a Mills Creek container and then give them away at free giveaway events at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Church Street, next to People’s Pharmacy.”

In the past five years, in addition to the giveaway events, the Grateful Bread has run various community action initiatives, including monthly dinners and social celebrations while encouraging fundraising through its supporters.

The Grateful Bread has donated more than 45 Chromebook laptops for schools and books for inmates of Westgate Correctional Facility.

It is also collaborating with Home, a charity whose mission is to end homelessness. Grateful Bread supporters have donated $15,000 to Home and are engaging the charity’s residents to work at its events.
