BNG remembers Peter Green

The chairman of the Bermuda National Gallery has paid tribute to the late hotel investor and philanthropist Peter Green.

Gary Phillips said Mr Green, whose family own the former Sonesta Beach resort property and the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, had a “quiet but sustained generosity of support and encouragement” that began with a loan of several artworks for the BNG’s first exhibition in 1992.

Mr Phillips added: “This generosity continues to this day with an exhibition of portraits by Andy Warhol from the Green family collection, scheduled to open in May 2025.

“Having works of this stature puts the BNG on the international stage and gives the people of Bermuda unique access to some of the biggest names in contemporary art on their home soil.

“We salute Mr Green and offer our sincere condolences to his sons, Alex and Andrew, their immediate family as well as those friends, near and far, who held their father in the highest esteem.”

Mr Green died on November 7 aged 89.
