The Premier has paid tribute to Peter Green, saying the island had lost “a great friend to Bermuda”.

Mr Green, the head of a family of hospitality investors who revitalised the flagship Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, died last week.

David Burt said: “On behalf of the people of Bermuda, I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Peter Green.

“His legacy on our island and our people are marked by his unwavering commitment to Bermuda’s potential.

“His family's investments, particularly in the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, boosted Bermuda’s tourism industry and created a new standard for hotels in Bermuda.”

Mr Burt added: “Beyond his business achievements, his quiet yet impactful philanthropy demonstrated his deep compassion and care for Bermuda and its people.

“A prime example of his generosity can be seen in the many Bermudian students who were able to earn university degrees through scholarships awarded by Mr Green and his family.

“We mourn the loss of a great friend to Bermuda and celebrate a life which greatly enhanced others.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his sons, Alexander and Andrew, during this time of mourning.”

On Facebook today, Saltus also paid tribute to Mr Green, and said his “contributions will be remembered with great respect and gratitude”.

The post said: “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Green family on the passing of Peter Green.

“Mr Green’s legacy of philanthropy has had a profound impact on Bermuda, particularly through the family’s longstanding support for causes such as education and cancer care.

“At Saltus, we are deeply grateful for the Green family’s generosity, which has enabled numerous students to benefit from scholarships and opportunities that might not have otherwise been possible.

“Mr Green’s contributions will be remembered with great respect and gratitude.”
