The Salvation Army has announced four new roles in Bermuda.

A statement from the charity said majors Mark and Wendy Crabb are the new corps officers and pastors for the West End Community Church on Cambridge Road.

The couple, who were ordained in 2007, are originally from Hamilton, Ontario, but are no strangers to the island — they ministered at the Cedar Hill corps for five years, and Major Wendy Crabb was the chaplain for the organisation’s Harbour Light programme.

Captain Dennis Maybury, ordained in 2010, is the organisation’s new public relations officer.

Captain Maybury worked with the Bermuda Police Service for 27 years and was stationed with his wife, Mary, in Ontario and Nova Scotia before returning to the island.

Lieutenant Amy Patrick, ordained in 2021, was raised in the Salvation Army and comes to Bermuda from Edmonton, Alberta.

Lieutenant Patrick, who is ministering at the Cedar Hill corps, explained: “It’s our stories that connect us; I’m excited for how God will continue to move through the people and this island.”

The statement added: “All the new appointees have a passion for serving people in need.

“The Salvation Army in Bermuda looks forward to the positive transformative impact they will have in the community.”

The announcement came less than a month after the organisation appealed for donations to keep its North Street citadel going until the end of October.

Major Darryl Simms, corps officer and pastor at the facility, said at the time: “We have always managed on our budget and been able to get by, but this month and in the past few months, there has been an increased demand and it’s been hard to provide for that need.”

Captain Maybury said the response to this appeal was excellent and thanked every donor for their kindness and generosity.

However, he highlighted that the charity could use more non-perishable items, which can be dropped off at the North Street citadel, across from Dellwood Middle School, the West End church or the St George corps on Governor’s Alley.

• Items for the charity’s thrift shop can be dropped off at the regional office on Roberts Avenue and money can be donated viasalvationarmy.bmor transferred to HSBC account 010-202539-001 (specify: Christmas Kettle)
