Industrial action slows mail to and from Canada

A Canadian postal strike is expected to cause mail to and from Canada to be delayed, according to the Bermuda Post Office.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers, consisting of thousands of Canadian postmen, went on strike over wages, working conditions and other issues.

The Canadian Post said mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered during the strike, and some post offices will be closed.

A government spokeswoman said: “At this time, the Bermuda Post Office will continue to accept and transport mail to Canada, however, BPO customers are advised that there will be delivery delays due to the strike.

“The BPO regrets any inconvenience caused to its valued customers.”

The spokeswoman said that once service in Canada resumes, mail items will be processed and delivered as quickly as possible.
