Details were released this week about The MarketPlace Christmas parade, which will feature Gombeys, Santa Claus, other holiday characters and fireworks on Sunday.

Seth Stutzman, the president of The MarketPlace group of companies, said the event represented “more than just a celebration, it’s our way of giving back to the community that supports us throughout the year”.

He added: “We're particularly proud to showcase local talent and businesses, including our partners at Swan Pyrotechnics, who will create an unforgettable fireworks display.”

The parade will begin at 5pm at the junction of Church Street and Queen Street, continue along Church Street to Court Street and finish on Front Street, with the 20-minute fireworks display scheduled to start at 7.10pm.

Any parked vehicles along the parade course after 2pm will be towed and all roads on the route, in addition to Par-la-Ville Road from Church Street to The Royal Gazette office, will be closed from 3pm.

Emergency vehicles will be allowed on the route, which will reopen to traffic at 8pm.

King Street will be a two-way road for traffic east of Hamilton and Bermudiana Road will be open for motorists travelling west during the closure. Parking will be available at Bull’s Head, City Hall and Cavendish car parks.

All marine vessels must stay at least at least 800 feet away from the fireworks barge near White’s Island before and during the fireworks display.

Pet owners have been advised to walk their dogs before the display, keep them in a secure indoor location and use music or television to mask the noise.

Mr Stutzman said: “We want everyone to enjoy this festive celebration, including our furry family members.

“Taking these simple precautions will help ensure that both pets and their owners have a stress-free evening.”

Spectators can watch the parade anywhere along the route, but will get the best view of the fireworks at Albuoy’s Point or Front Street.

Mr Stutzman said: “We thank our dedicated team members who work tirelessly throughout the year to serve our community and to organise this parade.

“This community event is our way of bringing holiday magic to all of Bermuda.”
