Skyport releases schedule for three-day carol competition
Primary and secondary pupils from 20 schools will compete in the Great Bermuda Carol-Off next month.
A spokeswoman said professional musicians will also perform in front of the island’s largest Christmas tree at LF Wade International Airport on December 2, 4 and 5.
The 38ft tall tree, adorned with 26,550 Christmas lights, is as long as an American school bus and weighs more than two metric tonnes.
Each choir will perform for 15 minutes during the competition, which will take place from 9.30am to 2pm on Monday and Wednesday and run until 2.30pm on Thursday.
A three-judge panel, led by former Dale Butler, a former government minister, author and historian of Bermuda music, will judge each choir.
Shortlisted schools will perform at a 90-minute winners’ concert on December 12, which will begin at 7pm.
The winning primary and secondary school choirs will both receive $5,000, the runners-up in each category will win $2,000 and the “People’s Choice” winner will earn $1,200 for their music programmes.

A Christmas vendors market will be open throughout the Carol-Off and winners’ concert.
Skyport this week marked the beginning of the festive period.
