Awards recognise hundreds of years of public service
More than 200 members of the Public Service were recognised for their long service at a recent awards ceremony
The awards were given to staff who worked for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 and 45 years.
Georgette Bailey and Laverne Smith received standing ovations from the audience for their 45 years of dedicated service.
The Premier, David Burt, said: “As we reflect on the years of service each officer has given, we are reminded of the countless ways they have positively impacted the lives of our citizens.”
He added: “The work they do has made a difference in the lives of all Bermudians and has helped to shape our island’s progress.
“These officers’ longevity is a testament to the resilience, passion and commitment they have in making Bermuda a better place.
“This commitment is not only appreciated but also serves as an example to the next generation of public officers.”
The Head of the Public Service, Cherie Whitter, added: “We are incredibly grateful to these officers who have dedicated themselves to career growth and professional development within the Public Service.
“Their long tenure is a testament to the positive and rewarding experience we strive to provide. We remain committed to nurturing talent and supporting career progression.”
The president of the Bermuda Public Services Union, Armell Thomas, said: “We celebrate the remarkable service the honourees have provided to the Government and our broader community.
“In a world where the pace of change is rapid and the demands on public service workers are ever evolving, their continued commitment stands as a beacon of excellence.”
The last awards ceremony was held in 2019, and was suspended in 2020, because of the pandemic.
