Church spreads the love at neighbourhood social event
Children at a Pembroke neighbourhood enjoyed some holiday cheer yesterday during a free event aimed at bringing the community together.
The Christmas on the Curve social, hosted by the Church of God of Prophecy on Curving Avenue in Pembroke, was deemed a blend of family, fun and fellowship.
Shayne Scott, the pastor of the church, said: “We try to do this event every year.
“We did it for the last three years, and this is just an opportunity to pour back into the community — just to remind them that there is a church up on the curve who loves them and is concerned about them.”
Mr Scott added: “We say it all the time that Jesus is the reason for the season and we just want everybody to feel the love of Christ.”
He said the turnout at yesterday’s event was “fantastic” and noted that children from the neighbourhood and from other churches around the island attended.
Vanessa Scott, a preacher at the church and Mr Scott’s wife, said the event was a means of “brining joy and encouragement to the neighbourhood”.
She said fun prizes were given to the children in attendance and that they also took part in multiple fun games as the day progressed.
The children were treated to a variety of things to eat including hot dogs and finger foods as well as entertainment that included interpretative dances.
“Having this Christmas on the Curve event enables our children to have safe, meaningful fun,” the church said.
