Winter Fest to celebrate life of Drae-E Trimm-Parfitt

Paget Primary School is organising a festive community event in memory of one if its students whose life was cut short along with those of members of her family.

Drae-E Trimm-Parfitt, 9, was found dead in July at an apartment on South Terrace, Pembroke, along with Na-Vii Trimm-Parfitt, 4, Nicole Parfitt, 39, and Ramon Trimm, 40.

Money was raised for the family through a pot-luck event for a fun day in August at Bright Beginnings Nursery and Pre-School, Pembroke, which Na-Vii had attended.

The rest of the funds raised will now go towards the Winter Fest, which will take place on the top field at Paget Primary School on Thursday.

Sonia Raynor, the principal of Paget Primary, assigned P6 students the task of helping to organise the event, which will include performances, a fire pit, fun castles, games, face painting and a 360 photo booth

There will also be a raffle, hot chocolate and hot dogs for sale as well as complimentary soup.

Shanika Parfitt, the children’s aunt, said the family were grateful for the gesture, adding that the support from the community was helping them to come to terms with their loss.

She said: “We are very moved that Paget Primary is honouring my niece in this way. They decided to replace their traditional winter event with this event. It’s a social event to provide emotional support.

“Principal Raynor built a team together, the choir will be singing, Jazzy Treats is donating free cotton candy, Drae-E’s teacher Katrina Stowe will be remembering my niece; they are missing her.

“Warwick Workmen’s Club and The Berkeley Institute are also involved. It definitely appears to be a Paget Primary community event. It’s good for the children, the teachers and everyone. We are still hurting and need to come together.”

The event is from 6pm to 8pm and entry is $10.
