Free clothing giveaway taking place at Elliot Primary
A free clothing giveaway will be hosted by Bermuda Is Love tomorrow at Elliot Primary School.
The event in Devonshire is open to anyone in need and will take place from 10am to 2pm.
Clothing for all age groups, genders, sizes and occasions will be provided in a bid to help members of the community while promoting sustainable fashion practices.
Aaron Crichlow, a cofounder of the charity, said: “Bermuda Is Love believes that everyone deserves equal access to clothing, not only for practical needs but also for fostering self-confidence and personal dignity.
“Access to clothing empowers individuals to represent themselves authentically and take steps towards greater self-sufficiency.
“This initiative is a reminder that what we wear does not define us. Every person deserves respect and basic human rights, regardless of their attire.”
• Provide free clothing: Ensuring individuals and families have access to clothing, a basic human need.
• Reduce fast-fashion impact: Combating the environmental harm caused by the fast-fashion industry.
• Advocate for the human right to clothing: Highlighting the importance of clothing for health, safety, dignity and self-expression.
Bermuda Is Love called on the public to adopt sustainable practices including buying fewer clothes and choosing ethical, sustainable options, shopping second-hand, donating unwanted clothes and treating garments with care to extend their life.
Mr Crichlow added: “The fast-fashion industry is the second-largest polluter globally, contributing 10 per cent of worldwide emissions and fuelling climate change.
“It promotes a throwaway culture due to the cheap, disposable nature of its products, leading to environmental and social harm.”
This event and others like it are made possible through donations from the community. Bermuda Is Love invites anyone who is able to join its movement through volunteering efforts.
