November’s honours for outstanding achievement among public employees has gone to the Bermuda Post Office’s security team.

The monthly Public Service Excellence Award, a scheme launched three years ago, was bestowed on Friday.

Recognition went to a group including Richard Hazelwood, Tekle Ming, John Pitcher, Keith Wainwright, Barbara Ingemann, Samuel Brangman and retired member Dwayne Brown, after the security team garnered its gold standard certification from the Universal Postal Union for the second consecutive time.

The international union carries out a three-year audit of standards, with the Government commending the security team’s re-certification as testament to its upholding of international guidelines — including safeguarding postal facilities and overseeing the safe delivery of mail and packages.

David Burt, the Premier, called the team “a shining example of the dedication and expertise that define Bermuda’s public service”.

Certification requires meeting stringent compliance standards, including the inspection of physical documents and international facility reviews.

Cherie-Lynn Whitter, the Head of the Public Service, called it an occasion of “great pride and admiration”.

Offering her congratulations, she added: “Their efforts ensure the safety and integrity of our postal services, setting a benchmark for others to follow.”
