Changes to waste and recycling collections over the holiday period were announced by the Ministry of Public Works today.

Waste that would have been collected on Wednesday, which is Christmas Day, will instead be collected on December 27.

Collections that would have taken place on December 26 — Boxing Day — and Friday will take place on December 28.

The ministry added that waste collections on December 23 and 24 will be unaffected.

As Christmas week is a recycling week, West End recycling will be picked up on December 27 and East End recycling will be collected on December 28.

The ministry said: “The new year holiday falls on Wednesday, January 1, pushing Wednesday's waste collection to Thursday, January 2; Thursday's collection to Friday, January 3; and Friday's collection to Saturday, January 4.

“New year’s week is not a recycling collection week.”
