Holidays affect waste and recycling collection schedules

Changes to waste and recycling collections over the upcoming holiday period were announced by the Ministry of Public Works today.

Waste that would have been collected on Wednesday, which will be Christmas Day, will instead be collected on December 27.

Collections that would have happened on December 26 — Boxing Day — and Friday will both take place on December 28.

The ministry added that waste collections on December 23 and 24 will be unaffected.

As Christmas week is a recycling week, west-end recycling will be lifted on December 27 and east-end recycling will be collected on December 28.

The ministry said: “The New Year holiday falls on Wednesday, January 1, pushing Wednesday's waste collection to Thursday, January 2; Thursday's collection to Friday, January 3; and Friday's collection to Saturday, January 4.

“New Year’s week is not a recycling collection week.”
