BE Solar has completed an “innovative” solar project at the Bermuda Red Cross Headquarters in Paget.

The company said the installation of the 32-panel solar photovoltaic system was part of its plan to help charities and businesses support each other with clean energy.

It said in a statement: “This innovative project not only helps advance the Bermuda Red Cross sustainability goals but also strengthens the organisation’s resilience and operational efficiency.

“The initiative underscores BE Solar’s commitment to supporting organisations in achieving their ESG objectives while working to address climate challenges and helping the charitable sector reduce their operating costs.”

BE Solar was selected to carry out the project through a competitive bidding process.

The renewable energy company said it played a role in helping the charity to secure funding for the project from Aeolus Capital Management and the QBE Foundation.

It also contributed an in-kind donation valued at $3,700 to further support the initiative.

Stratton Hatfield, the chief sales and marketing officer at BE Solar, said: “This project showcases how businesses, charities and the clean energy sector can come together to create meaningful change.

“We’re proud to help the Bermuda Red Cross lead by example in the transition to a sustainable and resilient future.”

Steven Wells, head of the charitable giving committee at Aeolus Capital Management said: “This system exemplifies energy leadership and collaboration within our community.”

He said the project was the third of its kind that the company helped to fund.

Mr Wells added: “We are immensely proud to partner with BE Solar and the Bermuda Red Cross to deliver on a shared vision for a sustainable Bermuda.”

Thomas Lowe, chair of the QBE Foundation Bermuda, said: “Our support for the Bermuda Red Cross reflects our commitment to meaningful environmental action while strengthening vital community services.”

Ann Spencer Arscott, the executive director of the Bermuda Red Cross, said the project came at an ideal time since the charity considered having a back-up power source when it moved to the location.

She said: “It has been a great experience working with the BE Solar team and of course, none of this could have happened without the tremendous support from Aeolus Capital Management and the QBE Foundation."

BE Solar said that since 2010, it has provided support to charities across the island by reducing their carbon footprint and operational costs with clean energy.

In 2025, the company will install projects for Focus Counselling, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, the Bermuda National Trust and the Bermuda Football Association.
